You can see the dawn from anywhere.
Mental health and healing starts with attachment. A bond that is equally rewarding for two individuals, whether between a parent and a child or two adults, can help us understand our truths, find meaning, and feel fulfilled in our lives.
When attachment is disrupted, waves of mental health struggles may occur. If you or your loved one are in a space of suffering, I am is honored to join you in your journey toward healing. I work with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and families. Attachment theory and humanistic psychology sit at the foundational core of my work. My utmost priority is for you to feel safe in this space as you explore what has been challenging for you.
As we bask in the light of dawn and clarity, we hope to evoke within you the courage to feel enlivened.
About Dr. Jenna Cheng
Dr. Jenna received her B.S. degree in cognitive science and neuroscience at UC San Diego. She then ventured east and received her medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she stayed to complete her adult psychiatry residency. In residency, she was drawn to the way adults talked about their childhoods and how family dynamics influenced all of us. She went on to complete her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Harbor UCLA-Medical Center. Throughout training, she developed a profound appreciation for the psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach, rooted in attachment theory and humanistic psychology. She also incorporates tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) when appropriate. Dr. Jenna is particularly interested in trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, behavioral issues, and psychotic symptoms. She is passionate about helping immigrant families navigate the difficulties of adapting to a new environment. Her dedication to trauma and family work allows her to value an individualized, culturally-sensitive approach to care.
Dr. Jenna is double board-certified in child and adult psychiatry. She is also certified in trauma-focused CBT, and trained in family therapy at UCLA. She is a past member of the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles.
Dr. Jenna speaks conversational Mandarin and Japanese.
